Come and train at Blackburn North Massage & Fitness... The training sessions are designed with many options and for many different types of participants. 

My clients are mostly 35 or older (but you can work with me from any age) and manage a range of old injuries and niggles.  We can work around almost anything.  Ideally, you do two 45-minute sessions a week working through resistance training and interval style cardio sessions to reach and maintain your optimum fitness.
 
There are no joining or monthly fees.  You pay per session with no commitments past that. Sessions are $65 each, or you can share your session with a partner or friend to reduce the cost.  After a settling in period, you can even opt for just the resistance training part of your session which takes less time at a reduced cost.

Why Train with Me?

Comfort and Safety
The bottom line is that you want to make some changes in a comfortable environment.  We train one on one with all of the facilities available just for you with no one else around.  We can do as much or as little as you want and there's no one to watch or judge what you're doing. As you become more comfortable with training, we can work harder to help you achieve something if that's what you want.  When you feel like you're working hard enough there's no pressure to increase your training - resistance training at maintenance level is very important and it's actually what I do myself.

Accountability
Have you ever joined a gym and after six weeks never gone back, but still have to pay out your contract? Well you're not alone if you have.  Gyms work on a large percentage of people not showing up.  Imagine how crowded the gym would be if everyone came?  Booking with a trainer makes you show up.  You have an appointment, you're expected to show and if you don't you still pay for the session you've booked unless you've given me 24hrs notice.  And I'll call you if you're 15 minutes late to find our where you are.  I value my clients and see us as working together to help you.  I prefer you to show up even if you can't do all of the exercises and I will do everything I can to make sure our partnership works out and you get stronger and fitter.

Resistance Training Is Important
The benefits of resistance training cannot be overstated.  As we get older, people lose mobility.  They lose it through lack of strength related to lack of use of muscle tissue.  This reduces bone density and results in osteoperosis.  If you fall with brittle bones they break.  If you break a hip or vertebra at an older age you may never recover - at least it's very difficult.  Resistance training starting early on, at least in your 40s or 50s, or earlier, before the severe reduction in bone density occurs - will protect you.  Muscles pull on bones and this along with an adequate diet, causes your bones to retain density.

Standard Science
The formula for resistance training has not substantially changed for over 60 years.  Whilst there have been some discoveries about sets, reps and recovery, they have only resulted in tweaks to training techniques.  Unless you are training for a specific sport, or you are body building, the old school weights exercises are still the best way to improve your strength and health.  The secret is not really a secret - your program must be balanced.  The sessions are whole body sessions working every muscle group to fatigue ensuring strength gains come overall and don't cause injury in the areas that are often overused by unsupervised gym participants.

Variety
And to keep you amused, the sessions change every four to six weeks, following the same formulae with different exercises designed to do the same thing - increase or maintain strength, bone density, health and general fitness in a systematic and safe way at the level of work you are able to maintain without injury. It is important to note that for improvements to occur you need some routine in the sessions to ensure overload occurs.  We do this through using the same muscle groups at the same intensity through all sessions, and our variety is maintained by approaching the muscle use from a different angle.  I do not subscribe to the often used method of training completely differently every session to give you variety.  You will not make any gains exercising that way.

Most sessions finish with some HIIT (high intensity interval training), usually on a bike or rower, again with a short sharp session based on scientific principles backed by research.  You can of course, opt for more resistance training and no HIIT if you want.

Costs
It may also interest you to know that this type of training can cost you anything from $80 to $120 elsewhere for a half hour session.  You may, if you join a gym, get some initially cheap sessions, for example 10 sessions at $50 each, but it's full price as above once they're used.  Over a six month period you could pay between $4200 and  $5,000 plus membership fees for what cost you $3,000 with us. And my sessions are 45 minutes, not 30 minutes.

Session Types and Prices

One on One Training
Science based whole body sessions using dumbbells, barbells, floor exercises, fitness balls, TRX and the like. Sessions follow the 'work to failure' rule for each muscle group to allow you to lose fat - not muscle - while you are in caloric deficit. We finish with a HIIT session on the rower or bike. Choose from once, twice or three times a week. The more you train with Blackburn North Massage & Fitness the less you need to do elsewhere.  A 45 minute session $65

Fitness Training for 40 plus
If you're getting older and need a spark to re-enter the world of fitness then Blackburn North Massage & Fitness has a range of exercise programs designed to get you going. Whether you have a history of injury or haven't done anything in a long time, we can get you started on the road to good health. Most clients also lose body fat along the way, but more importantly regain and maintain the mobility required for a great lifestyle into the future.

Program Writing
Perhaps you have a gym membership but need a good program, or maybe you've got some equipment at home but don't know what to do. At Blackburn North Massage & Fitness we can write you a program according to your specific needs, and over two sessions show you the technical ins and outs so that you can can complete your program safely and effectively. Normally two different whole body weights or bodyweight sessions are written and each booking shows you how to do each session. Two 45 minutes sessions @$65 each

Short and Sharp
A 30 minute session where the participant shows up already warmed up.  This is a weights only session of 3 sets of 10 using supersetted exercises with a program I will design and run for you.  You will also do your own cool down after the session.  This is designed to reduce costs for you, but in order to do these sessions, you need at least 10 normal sessions under your belt so we can be confident of finishing comfortably within the time without injury.  30 minute session $50

Pairs Session
Share your workout with someone else.  It doesn't matter who it is, as long as they can do the same exercises as you.  Weights used will differ and some exercises can be adjusted, but you will be doing the same exercises together - generally a weight training session followed by some interval training along the lines of the usual 45 minutes session.  45 minute session total cost is $80 ($40 each)

Payment options
You can pay for your session by cash, credit card or direct debit.  Credit card payments require a card processing cost of 2% through Square.  So it's cheaper to pay cash or direct debit. You can pay direct debit before or immediately after your session.
